It's my favorite time of year again...Autumn.  Here's a pastel painting just completed that I feel captures the warm beauty of the season.  I couldn't resist the lovely aqua, rusts, golds, browns and brilliant yellow colors of the sunlight shining through the field.

Summer Colors III - Sold

"Summer Colors III", 36 x 48" Acrylic, Sold

This is the largest painting in my "Summer Colors" series - based on the lovely pastel version, "Summer Colors II", this was a challenge to translate it into a very large painting, 36" x 48"!  To do that it made sense to move to acrylic.  How happy I am with the way it turned out.  My approach was much like that of the pastel piece, big sections of simplified shapes into solid colors.  The whole process was a joy from start to finish.

Fiery Poppies

"Fiery Poppies" 16 x 20" Acrylic & Pastel

I've loved the photo upon which this painting was based ever since I saw it and hoped I could interpret the feeling I get when observing it.  I feel satisfied with these results.  This time I used acrylics mixed with fine pumice medium as the base finished with heavy layers of soft pastels.  I would love to do this one really large, but am content for now with its 16 x 20" size.  It will be matted and framed, making this a fairly large piece of original artwork.
