Day & Nite Cleaners Study ● SOLD

Oil, 8 x 10" stretched canvas.
A wonderful example of Art Deco architecture sits at the curve where 10th Street merges into 11th (Route 66).  And, it's across the street from the old Warehouse Market Building whose deco facade I just painted earlier this week!

I loved how the morning light created lovely soft pastels on the various building planes.

"Lyon's Deco Doorway" SOLD

Oil, 10 x 8" stretched canvas

Lyon's Indian Store in downtown Tulsa inhabits one of our Deco treasures: the Warehouse Market Building. This little oil on 10 x 8" stretched canvas focuses on its beautiful, colorful deco facade. Based on a photo I took early one morning a couple of weeks ago, it was hard to decide how much of the building to show. I decided just to focus on that dynamic doorway surrounded by the blue cobalt tiles. What a site!

Be sure to take time to study this example of deco architecture at its finest.

Sumac Study

Oil, 8 x 10" stretched canvas
$85 US (includes ground S & H within US)

Last Autumn on my drive south on Riverside Drive early one morning, I caught sight of a beautiful, thick field of Sumac and had to pull over to snap some photos. This little impressionist piece tries to capture the exuberance I felt when seeing such lovely vibrant colors that October morning. I used a heavy paint application with knife and brush and scraping off the toned canvas to suggest the coarse textures of the foreground foliage.

Black Orchid

This is an abstract I painted to go with a new room redecorate. The room features lovely, soothing neutral colors with the walls a deep greyish taupe and winter white woodwork.

Organic references and textures are featured in this acrylic, latex and various mediums on a 24 x 24" gallery wrapped canvas.

Koi Pond

This large abstract is a follow up to "Asian Moon" featuring another Asian feel to the scene. Focus is on rich texture and colors. Truly one must see this piece in person to appreciate the textures. The painting is acrylic, acrylic inks, latex and acrylic sculpting mediums on 48 x 24" gallery wrapped canvas.

Detail:

Deco Teapot and Coco

Of late it seems that a larger brush, namely a house painting brush has inhabited my hand! Thus my time at the easel has been somewhat limited. To knock the "rust off" I did do a couple of little 8 x 8" acrylic studies from life. Working with a very limited palette and rather quickly. Focused on also limited the brush strokes.

Art in the Square Review

Thanks to everyone who came by to enjoy the beautiful art at this year's Utica Square Art in the Square show yesterday. The weather cooperated and made for a perfect day for viewing the artwork! Here are a few snapshots from my display. This year I featured several Tulsa Cityscapes and architectural scenes from our beautiful city. I was delighted to hear comments such as "you make Tulsa look like it could be Paris" and "it's great to see an artist honoring the place we live". I visited with one long time resident of Tulsa who reminisced as she studied those paintings for quite awhile. That certainly gave impetus to keep doing these as it's the history of such places that captures my curiosity. Popular too were the abstracts, a genre that I'm beginning to explore more to give my creative "muscle" a workout!

A huge thank you goes to all you who purchased art and those who discussed commissioning special paintings - I'm anxious to get started on those projects! Your encouragement and support is very much appreciated.

A special thanks goes to Miss Jackson's for once again hosting a lovely artists reception, the merchants of Utica Square for their support and the staff of Helmerich and Payne for their tireless work in promoting, organizing and hosting what I consider the most beautiful art show around!

Last but not least, my utmost thanks goes to the tireless support of my very dear friends, Jeremy and Lacy, whose gift for design helped me once again set up a most appealing display, my husband for his moral support and willingness to sit with me all day, and to my wonderful friends and family who come every year to see my annual show. And thank you to my family who live around the country who support me in spirit. None of this could be done without all our combined efforts. Thank you.
